SUBJECT: PTA Newsletter 11.08.23

Weekly Newsletter #11 - November 8, 2023
President's Corner

We extend our gratitude for your remarkable support of our Fall Pledge. Together, we have raised an impressive $34,000 for our school. We've come so close to our goal, falling short by only $11,000, with 376 PTA members out of our target of 400 by the end of October. Just 24 more families could have made the difference.

We are incredibly proud of our Alderwood community for the overwhelming support we've received. Though we didn't reach our goal within the desired timeframe, your year-long donations ensure that the PTA delivers on our promises to our students.

To help bridge the fundraising gap, we encourage you to:

  • Order your Spirit Wear before November 15th so your student(s) can proudly wear it every Friday.

  • Purchase your Krispy Kreme Doughnut gift card from our PTA Store

  • Reserve your family photo shoot for the holiday with Image32 Photography.

We still need your support for joining the PTA, as IUCPTA aims to reach 20,000 PTA members this year. The PTA plays a pivotal role in building connections between schools, students, and their families. Your membership is an investment in our school community.

As a PTA member, you have a "seat at the table" and a voice when important school decisions are made. Please mark your calendar to attend our next general meeting on November 28th, where you can stay informed about our plans.

Did you know that your PTA membership comes with perks? The PTA is excited to introduce our 2023-2024 Community Partners, including:

  • Aquarium of the Pacific

  • Big 5 Sporting Goods

  • Bob White Karate Studio

  • Fountain Valley Skating Center

  • Pretend City Children's Museum

These partners generously support students, families, and local schools, and they offer various perks to PTA members. Visit our new Community Partners webpage at https://www.fourthdistrictpta.org/community-partners/ for specific details. Membership truly has its benefits! We want to thank you for making a real difference in education, for our students, and for our school.

THANK YOU to all the Alderwood families for your rad donations! Our Retro Rockers and Cassette Crews totally rocked out at the recognition party.

For Retro Rocker and Cassette Crew students who did not attend the party last Friday, please reach out to president@alderwoodpta.com to receive their gifts. We want to ensure everyone can join the fun, and your feedback will help us plan accordingly.

eWallet Reminders

Say goodbye to cash and hello to eWallet—your child’s digital payment account. Before the Fair, set up eWallet for worry-free, cash-free purchases. Anyone can contribute! Share each child’s eWallet so friends and family can add funds and give your kids more books to enjoy.

If your child has remaining funds from a previous Book Fair’s eWallet or a Scholastic eGift card, you must create a new eWallet for each new Book Fair (and one for each child). When you set up your eWallet for this Fall’s 2023 Book Fair, look for the option to apply your current balance to a new eWallet!

If you can’t make it to the Fair, then shop at our school’s Book Fair online. All orders ship directly to your home, and shipping is free for book orders over $25. Every online purchase will also benefit our school.

Visit our Book Fair homepage to learn more and get started with eWallet and online shopping:

We are looking for volunteers to be part of the Nominating Committee for next year’s PTA Executive Board 2024-25.

The purpose of the Nominating Committee is to seek and identify qualified nominees for next year’s PTA Executive Board.  Each year, some Board members will term out of their positions (PTA bylaws allow volunteers to serve a maximum of 2 years in the same position) so the committee will help fill those.

Volunteers are needed to ensure nominees represent a diverse range of talents, perspectives and experiences.  Your role on Nominating Committee will include finding and interviewing potential candidates in January and February, and then recommending the new slate in March.

If you are interested in being a part of the Nominating Committee or if you have any questions, please email our Parliamentarian, Elizabeth Reilly, at parliamentarian@alderwoodpta.com

Attention PTA volunteers! Kindly update your Raptor volunteer information for the 2023/2024 school year. Last year's data has been cleared from the system. Access the application here: {Raptor Volunteer Application}.
