Weekly Newsletter #32 - May 1, 2024
President's Corner

Thank you so much for attending and supporting our annual school carnival & silent auction! We had a great turn out! So many families attended and we heard everyone had so much fun. We raised $12,000 from the silent auction! Your donations this year will go to fund a field trip for every student, all of the Walk Through programs, assemblies, and so much more! Your support helps make the school year so much fun & memorable!

The fun isn’t over yet! We have a few upcoming events & we would like to include all families! Check out below for all the details!

  1. Book Fair May 1-9: Volunteer sign up, preview days, and e-wallet. As parents, your encouragement in fostering a love for reading in your children is invaluable. We would love to refer to a quote from Malala Yousafzai about the profound impact of education on shaping the world. Let's continue to support and encourage our children to explore the wonders found within the pages of a book.

  2. TASAW May 6-10: Get ready to show our amazing teachers and staff how much we appreciate everything they do! During TASAW, we encourage you to show appreciation for their unwavering commitment to nurturing young minds. Please communicate with your room parent and check the SignUpGenius for ways to participate and make this week memorable for our amazing teachers and staff.

  • PREVIEW: May 1 - May 3. Students will visit the Book Fair during a pre-scheduled time with their class during BOOK FAIR PREVIEW from May 1-May 3. Students will be able to shop during Preview Time if their teacher permits. so please prepare accordingly and check out our E-Wallet details below.
  • BOOK FAIR OPENS: Monday May 6 - Thursday May 9. Students may shop only at the book fair during recess, lunch, and after school.
  • OPEN HOUSE: Thursday, May 9. The Book Fair will open to students and family during the Open House from 6:30pm - 7:30pm.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES! We are so excited to showcase this year's new releases and bestsellers for your student(s), but we can't do it without YOU! The Book Fair is SOLELY run by wonderful parent/guardian volunteers just like you. There are shifts before school, during recess and lunch, and after school. Find a shift or two that works with your schedule. Please SIGN UP TO VOLUNTEER

E-Wallet SET UP AN EWALLET! Parents can create a digital payment account and prepay any amount. Students can spend eWallet amounts at the book fair without going over the limit set by parents. NOTE: If your child has remaining funds from a prior (including Fall 2023) Book Fair’s eWallet or a Scholastic eGift card, you must create a new eWallet for each new Book Fair (and one for each child). When you set up your eWallet for the 2024 Spring Book Fair, look for the option to apply your current balance to a new eWallet!

ORDER ONLINE!  Not able to shop in person? Shop the fair online.   All orders ship directly to your home and shipping is free for orders over $25 and proceeds will still benefit our school.

Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week

Please save the dates for Alderwood’s Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week (TASAW), happening from May 6-10, 2024. It's one of our staff's favorite weeks! This year, our theme is “Celebrating Our Educational Heroes,” and teachers and staff will enjoy meals and special treats.

Here's what's happening each day:

Monday, May 6: Taco 'bout Amazing Teachers and Staff

  • We're treating our teachers and staff to a fun and casual taco lunch provided by the PTA.

Tuesday, May 7: Tea Time Treats

  • Students are encouraged to make heartfelt handmade cards for their teachers and other school staff (instructional aids, custodian, nurse, librarian, music, art, science and cross-walk guard) to show appreciation for their diverse roles in education.

  • The Alderwood Persian Community offers a taste of tradition by serving Persian tea and pastries for teachers and staff starting at 9:50 am

Wednesday, May 8: Sip and Salute Soirée

  • We're organizing a classroom supplies drive to support teachers' needs and honoring custodial staff with a special appreciation day. Please look out for an email from your room parent with a list of items your teacher has specifically requested. PTA will provide beverages for a relaxed celebration for teachers and staff.

Thursday, May 9: Appetizers Around the World

  • Parents are invited to contribute hors d'oeuvres from different cultures to celebrate the diversity of our school community and show appreciation for our multicultural environment. Click here to sign up

Friday, May 10: Sweet Success

  • Students can pamper their teachers with gifts chosen from their favorite things list. PTA will provide a variety of desserts to sweeten the celebration of our teachers' hard work and dedication.

It's time to celebrate your 6th-grade promotion in style

Make your 6th-grade celebration even more special with our new products! We have colorful ribbon leis and beautiful orchid leis to add some fun and style to your day. Capture your memories with a quick photo session by a professional photographer. And don't forget to mark the occasion with a newly designed yard sign.
